NEW AIR POLLUTION PEAK IN LYON : WHY THIS PEAK AND HOW DOES CRIT'AIR VIGNETTES WORK ?

A peak in fine particle pollution has been underway since yesterday and continues this Friday, January 24.

Some explanations on the why of these PM2.5 and PM10 present in the air and on the rules of the CRIT'AIR sticker.

THERE ARE MORE POLLUTION PICS IN WINTER THAN IN SUMMER!

This is contrary to common belief since when it is hot you "smell" more pollution. But the pollutants and the phenomena involved are not at all the same.

In summer, they are more often ozone pollution, this pollutant called "secondary" being generated by the mutation of primary pollutants by the UVs of the sun.

In winter, the "classic" winter weather conditions are met (low temperatures, anticyclonic conditions and absence of wind) and combine with increased heating (the combustion of additional fossil fuels rejects micro particles). These phenomena prevent the dispersion of more pollutants into the atmosphere. Pollutant concentrations increase significantly, inducing exceedances of regulatory thresholds, in particular in terms of fine particles (PM2.5 & PM10)

IT IS HOWEVER EVERYDAY AND NOT ONLY ON THE POLLUTION DAYS THAT WE MUST PROTECT!

If the pollution peaks have made it possible, through the increasing media coverage, to alert public opinion, it is chronic and daily exposure that is dangerous for health!

It's a bit like alcohol, drinking a lot a day is not good, but drinking a little everyday will make you sick ...

Wearing an anti-pollution mask EVERY DAY is therefore the real solution to reduce your chronic exposure to air pollutants.

CRIT'AIR KESAKO? HOW IT WORKS ?

Road traffic is responsible overall for 1/3 of pollutant emissions. In cities and especially during pollution peaks and in winter, this impact is higher. In several municipalities such as Paris, Lille, Grenoble or Lyon, vignettes have been introduced to allow the establishment of alternating traffic.

This Friday, January 24, only vehicles with a CRIT'AIR 0, 1, 2 or 3 sticker will be allowed to travel in Lyon, Caluire and Villeurbanne. Vehicles without a sticker, or with a Crit'Air 4 and 5 are prohibited in the perimeter with the exception of the Boulevard Périphérique Nord, metropolitan route ex A7 (M7), highway A7, metropolitan route ex A6 (M6), tunnel sous Fourvière . In the event of non-compliance with differentiated traffic, offenders are liable to a fine of 68 euros for light vehicles.
